Fantasy football teams are being finalized
Who makes the cut? Will you wait until the last minute?
So the Premier League and La Liga start next weekend. It may be wise to take the husband, wife, partner, blow-up doll out for a meal sometime this week as you never know when you'll speak to them again until the season is over. (I'm concerned for those of you that skipped over the blow-up doll reference - you know who you are!)
I'm not a fan as I can't celebrate when another team score or keep a clean sheet - even if it means I am top of the fantasy football league for a week. But I know you'll all be holding off this week until the last minute, checking on whether Bale goes, Rooney moves on, Torres makes the squad. I know 'quality time' will be in jeopardy because you're wondering if you'll take a Hull, Palace, or Cardiff defender because they're cheap (It's always Paul McShane). Can Fat Frank still score 15+ a year? Is Stevie G past it? Who is this year's Christian Benteke?
Good luck with it. The stats team at Football geezer tell me that 62.9% of people never change their team, 37.1% never look at it after week 2 and everybody loves it when one of their defenders scores 2, keeps a clean sheet and is the captain that week!
Last year's best team was Hart, Baines, Ivanovic, Mertesacker (really?), Mata, Bale, Carzola, Hazard, Lambert, Van Persie, Michu (in a 3-4-3 system according to the Telegraph.)
My sleepers are Jesus Navas, Ravel Morrison (yes, really), Micah Richards and Daniel Sturridge - not really complete wildcards, but worth a punt.
